Andes and Amazon - Peru expedition itinerary
There are four main phases of the Andes and Amazon expedition. Take a look at the expedition itinerary below.
Acclimatisation phase
There are many treks in the Cordillera Blanca region around Huaraz, including day walks to local ruins and hot springs or overnight trips along spectacular valleys to glacier fed lakes. These will help teams acclimatise to the altitude and get used to expedition life!
Main trekking phase
In the Cordillera Blanca the Andean views are at their best with snow capped mountains towering over crystal blue lakes. Trekking trails from 4-8 days include passes of up to 5000m, requiring good fitness. Chachapoyas in the northern Andes is a good base for relatively unknown treks at a lower altitude, which pass through little-visited villages and pre-Inca sites.
Project work in Northern Peru
Teams will have the opportunity to learn about the Peruvian way of life, experiencing local culture first hand. Projects may include helping villages to construct or renovate community buildings, working in an orphange or setting up recycling systems.
Rest and relaxation
Peru contains many fascinating cultural sites including ancient ruins and colourful markets. Teams could choose to take part in white-water rafting, and those visiting the far north of Peru could spend some time relaxing on one of the area’s beautiful beaches.
