Health and safety on expedition to Namibia, Botswana and Zambia
To promote the best possible health and safety throughout your expedition to Namibia, Botswana and Zambia it is important to follow all guidelines set by your doctor and by World Challenge leaders.
Visit your doctor approximately 4 weeks before their expedition begins. Your doctor is likely to recommend vaccinations for yellow fever, typhoid and polio. They may also suggest you have jabs for tetanus, hepatitis, meningitis or cholera.
Although this may seem like a long list, your doctor will only suggest the vaccinations he deems necessary to promote your health and safety whilst on expedition. Although contracting these diseases unlikely, it is important to do everything you can to prevent your expedition being ruined by illness.
Your doctor may also offer antimalarial medication. These often come in the form of tablets and are recommended as Malaria is quite a common disease in Africa. If you are bitten by a mosquito at any point during your trip and experience any unusual symptoms make sure you inform your Expedition Leader of what has happened. You may not have contracted Malaria but you may still need medical treatment and the sooner your leader knows about your symptoms the sooner they can act on them.
