As an Approved Activity Provider, World Challenge is now able to offer ‘open’ Duke of Edinburgh Award Expeditions in a limited number of overseas destinations. This exciting partnership means that young people can benefit from the reliable structure of a World Challenge adventure, while working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Duke of Edinburgh Expedition for Silver and Gold Awards

The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is for young people aged between 14 and 24.  Programmes are available at three levels starting with Bronze, and an Award is achieved by completing a personal programme of activities. The scheme can be filled with activities and projects chosen by the individual which makes everyone’s experience unique. Selected World Challenge adventures provide the Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions required for Silver and Gold Awards.

To participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award, Individuals need to be at least 15. The Award comprises of four sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. For the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, Individuals need to be 16 and as well as embarking on the four sections required for Silver, Individuals must attend a residential section which involves staying away from home and participating in a shared activity with new people. The Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions for both Awards can be chosen from a selection offered by World Challenge.

What do young people achieve from a Duke of Edinburgh Expedition?

Participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is extremely rewarding for young people. It’s about being active, meeting new people, doing something worthwhile and working towards a challenge. Specifically taking a Duke of Edinburgh Expedition through World Challenge involves an adventure that can be life changing for those involved.  During the journey young people develop skills that are highly regarded by universities and employers, as well as being exposed to a learning experience that far exceeds anything taught within the confines of a classroom.
