India’s hugely varied culture, religion, geography and history make it one of the most fascinating and diverse countries in the world.
The Ladakh region is tucked away in the north of the Indian Himalayas. It is notorious for its stunning mountainous scenery and unique culture. Partly bordering Tibet, the region has been strongly influenced by its culture and a majority of Ladakhis are Tibetan Buddhists. Since the 1970s, the Indian Government has been encouraging tourism in Ladakh and for good reason, this region has so much to offer the more adventurous tourist - the trekking is breathtaking and the rural and remote cultures are inspring.

The largest town in Ladakh is Leh, where the expedition usually starts and finishes. Expedition members can acclimatise and stretch their legs on some short treks to temples and monasteries in Leh before the main trekking phase begins.
